black wool white wolves black wool white wolves black wool white wolves black wool white wolves black wool white wolves black wool white wolves
In the last song on this EP, White Wolves, a hateful song and an ugly subject, we included the word nigger, a hateful and ugly word. We thought we should address its use in the liner notes and open a forum for discussion in the future. We used the term to sum up the poor and disenfranchised in america and to show how the class divide was packaged and sold to voters, and the world, as a victory of racial division in a country trying to recover from eight years (and hundreds preceding) of aging white warmongers. Hope and Change. As much as we believe that Obama believes his own words, we know that the power structure in america is much more complicated. Hope is free but change is rarely cost effective. Still more infuriating, americas foreign policy, war on terror, their accountability for the deaths of hundreds of thousands, slunk out the back door while the spotlight shifted. The rich got richer and the poor, their numbers grew and still grow. America's approval ratings shot up on the world stage while the class divide at home turned into a chasm, swallowing those on the edge. A victory indeed. So should we have used this hateful term, nigger, regardless of the subject matter? When did we assume the right? Perhaps we have none. But, as a term as ingrained in american history as apple pie and the land of opportunity, a word the singularly sums up the division of the haves and the have-nots, the repressed and the oppressor, the master and the slave, we thought to allude its use and pass it by would be worse, insulting to those who have lived with the weight of it. It is not a word in our common vocabulary, as isn't the use of 'look the other way' terms like 'n-word'. This is a discussion that could go on and on, and let's hope these types do.
